A national recruitment drive for young volunteers took place across Scotland in autumn 2012 and we were inundated with requests to get involved. A core group of 14 young people were selected to lead the development of the project. This is a group of incredibly skilled, motivated and passionate individuals who believe they can make a difference to themselves and others.
These individuals have developed this resource for young people living with Type 1 diabetes across Scotland based on a previous publication produced by Diabetes UK for 16-25 year olds called ‘Making Connections’.
The group has participated on several training weekends to gain the skills necessary to effectively engage with other young people living with Type 1 across Scotland, and to discover their views.
In order to do this the group will be running consultation events across Scotland enabling young people with Type 1 to have a united voice on the important topics and an opportunity to create a network, connect people and provide a much needed voice for their generation.
It is hoped that this website will give young people the chance to share their personal experiences of living with Type 1, through videos, stories, photos, art, podcasts and music.
This is a chance for Young People to work with and meet others; for them to voice what's important and to say what support is needed, they have been central to every element of this project from ensuring that we are truly responsive to those living with diabetes.
